Apply a 19 inch 483 mm strip of underlayment felt parallel to and starting at the eaves fastened sufficiently to hold. Asphalt saturated felt starting at the eaves and lapping upper courses over lower by a minimum of 2 inches. On roofs with a slope of 4 12 or greater use a single layer of 15 lb. On roofs with a slope of 4 12 or greater use a single layer of 15 lb.

Starting at the eave apply 36 inchwide 914 mm sheets of underlayment overlapping successive sheets 19 inches 483 mm end laps shall be 6 inches and shall be offset by 6 feet. Vertical joints should lap a minimum of 4 inches and be offset by at least 6 feet in successive rows see figure 2 2 at left.
